The cup is small so only fits a small amount of liquid so while they are learning they don't spill a lot. It's a perfect "first drinking" cup & great to transition away from a sippy cup.
Please note:Suction works best on benches and tables (stone etc). Suction doesn't work as well on plastic and wooden surfaces (although it can still work. It's not as strong on these surfaces). Plates and bowls still make brilliant feeding utensils for kids.
